Step 1: Determine Eligibility:
Start by determining if you meet the eligibility criteria for the Atlantic Immigration Program. There are three main categories under AIP:
- Atlantic High-Skilled Program
- Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program
- Atlantic International Graduate Program
Each category has its specific requirements, so carefully review which one aligns best with your qualifications and aspirations.
- Educational Requirements:
- NOC 2021 TEER 0 or 1 category, you must have a Canadian one-year post-secondary educational credential or higher, or the equivalent from outside Canada.
- If you have a job offer at the NOC 2021 TEER 2, 3 or 4 category, you must have a Canadian high school diploma, or the equivalent from outside Canada.
- Language Requirements:
- CLB/NCLC 5 for TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3
- CLB/NCLC 4 for TEER 4

Step 2: Secure a Job Offer or Job Seeker Registration:
For the Atlantic High-Skilled Program and Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program, you will need a valid job offer from a designated employer in one of the Atlantic provinces. Alternatively, you can register with the provincial job bank to connect with employers in the region. For more information, check the provincial websites:
Step 3: Gather Required Documents:
As part of your application, you will need to gather all the necessary documents, including your passport, language test results (such as IELTS), educational credentials, work experience letters, and other supporting evidence to demonstrate your eligibility.
Step 4: Get a settlement Plan:
You must get a settlement plan after receiving a job offer from a recognized employer. A settlement plan will assist you and your family in adjusting to your new life in Atlantic Canada. It will give you with important tools and contacts to assist you in feeling at ease in your new town.

- If you are already in Canada, you must cooperate with a settlement service provider organization in the region where you intend to work. Your chosen employer can assist you in finding one.
- If you live outside of Canada, you can contact one of the numerous settlement service provider organizations in Canada. Request recommendations from your selected employer.
Give a copy of your settlement plan to your employer and keep a copy for yourself. If you are not already in Canada, bring the plan with you when you relocate.
Step 3: Obtain Endorsement from a Designated Authority:
Once you have a valid job offer or job seeker registration, you must apply for endorsement from the designated provincial authority of the Atlantic province where you wish to live and work. Your employer will handle this process. The endorsement confirms that you meet the criteria and are ready to contribute to the local labor market. Do not submit your permanent residency application until you have received confirmation from your employer that your offer has been accepted.
If the province approves your employment offer, you will be mailed a Certificate of Endorsement. Include your endorsement certificate with your application for permanent residency.
Step 5: Submit Your Application:
With all the required documents and endorsement in hand, submit your application for the Atlantic Immigration Program. Pay close attention to the guidelines and instructions provided by the designated provincial authority.
Step 6: Wait for the Decision:
After submitting your application, you will need to wait for the Atlantic province to process your application and make a decision. Processing times may vary depending on the province and the volume of applications.
Step 7: Apply for a temporary work permit (Optional):
You may be able to apply for a temporary work visa if you fulfill the conditions for permanent residency. The work permit allows you to work while your application for permanent residency is being processed. This work visa is only valid for the Atlantic Immigration Program for one year and allows you to work for the employer that gave you the job. Within 90 days of submitting your temporary work visa application, you must submit your permanent residency application.
Step 8: Apply for Canadian Permanent Residency:
If your application is successful, you will receive a provincial nomination from the Atlantic province. With this nomination, you can apply for Canadian Permanent Residency to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Step 9: Welcome to the Atlantic Provinces:
Upon approval of your Permanent Residency application, IRCC will send you
- Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR)
- permanent resident visa (if you’re from a country that requires a visa)
